The Art of Jamdani Weaving

Jamdani is woven using the supplementary weft technique — a complex process where intricate geometric and floral motifs are woven directly into the fabric using extra threads. Unlike printed or embroidered textiles, Jamdani patterns are an integral part of the weave itself, making each piece structurally unique and extraordinarily beautiful.

A Living Heritage

Jamdani weaving has been practiced in the Dhaka region for over 500 years. The craft was patronized by Mughal emperors and traded across the ancient Silk Road. Today, thousands of weavers in Rupganj and Sonargaon continue this tradition, creating sarees that are worn at weddings, festivals, and special occasions across South Asia and beyond.
